April has only been playing seriously for a year, but it's been an intense year. She says she played four or five times a week this summer, and lowered her best round from a 102 to an 85. April is one of two girls on her high school golf team.
Age: 14.
School: Freshman at Kellam High School.
Handicap: Not established yet; I average around a 90 or 92.
Favorite area course: Red Wing, because I usually play pretty well there.
Lowest score: 85 from the men's tees at Red Wing.
Clubs: Contender irons and woods, Odyssey putter.
Shot I dread the most: Sand shots. I'm always afraid I'll mess up.
My dream foursome: Annika Sorenstam, my best friend Kelli Lindsey, Arnold Palmer and myself.
Biggest golf gripe: People who can't keep the score correctly.
Most memorable shot: When I chipped in for a birdie on No. 8 at Red Wing.
Funniest thing I ever saw on the course: When I was in the woods hitting a ball, it hit two trees and wound up bouncing back behind me. ILLUSTRATION: Color photo by Ting-Li Wang/The Virginian-Pilot
