WILLIAM A. BARRY JR.

William A. ``Bill'' Barry Jr., 69, died Sunday evening Sept. 21, 1997, at Bayside Hospital.

Bill was born in Norfolk. He attended Sacred Heart and Holy Trinity Schools. He joined the Marines just after World War II and served for six years in active and reserved duties. After his discharge from the Marines, he went out looking for a home to purchase and decided he would like a career in real estate. He became a salesman with Goodman Segar Hogan and was one of their top agents for many years. During that time, he also taught real estate courses at the Division of William & Mary now Old Dominion University.

Later, he became active in cemetery sales and was very successful in that field also. In more recent years, he had been in the antique and flea Market business and recently owned Bill's Flea Market on Virginia Beach Blvd.

His wonderful personality and generosity were well known by everyone he encountered. He helped many people who were having financial problems. He was always available to listen to your problems and to tell a few good jokes to ease your day.

He is survived by and will be greatly missed by his wife, Dorothy; his sons, Timothy and wife, Maria, Bill and wife, Robin; daughter, Stella Barry; stepdaughter, Deborah Thompson and stepson, Michael Thompson; as well as eight treasured grandchildren, Maria, Julie, Thomas, Audrey, Ty, Haley, Katie and Paige. He is also survived by brother, Benny Barry and wife, Claudine; sisters, Margaret Staley and husband, Mike, Betty Seidel and husband, Donald, Carole Flowers and husband, Nick, Paula Curtis and husband, Pat.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel, by Fr. John J. Dorgan. Burial will be in Princess Anne Memorial Park.
