Housing authority's

board will discuss

personnel Friday

After firing its executive director this week, the Chesapeake Redevelopment and Housing Authority's board of commissioners will gather in a special meeting at 6 p.m. Friday to discuss personnel issues.

Wednesday's announcement comes on the heels of another special board meeting Monday night at which the board announced the termination of the authority's executive director, Douglas Falkner.

Falkner, who managed the authority for only six months, said this week that he intends to sue the authority.

Authority chairman Roland Thornton, who called for the third special board meeting in less than two weeks, was unavailable for comment Wednesday.

Boy Scout campground

to be dedicated Saturday

A new and improved Camp Baker Boy Scout campground will be dedicated at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Tidewater Council of the Boy Scouts of America uses the camp for outdoor activities. The 2,000-acre camp is on Centerville Turnpike at the Intracoastal Waterway. The property is owned by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers but is maintained by the Scouts, said project organizer Terry Ingham.

Associated General Contractors of Virginia donated its services and $30,000 in materials to build an activity shelter and two restrooms for the Scouts.

For more information, call the Tidewater Council of the Boy Scouts of America at 497-2668.

Army Engineers and city

to spray for mosquitoes

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the city of Portsmouth are coordinating a mosquito-spraying project for Saturday, Monday and Tuesday over Craney Island and parts of Churchland.

Weather permitting, the spraying will take place between 3:30 p.m. and sunset. The spraying will last about an hour.
