JAMES P. KEMP

James Preston Kemp, 79, of the 3000 block of Bainbridge Blvd., died Oct. 5, 1997, in his residence.

Mr. Kemp was born in Columbia, N.C., and had retired in 1975 from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a shipfitter after 35 years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Portlock United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Erline H. Kemp; two sons, Glenn Keith Kemp and James Lee Kemp and his wife, Phyllis Lee Kemp, all of Chesapeake; a brother, M. Flay Kemp of South Boston, Va.; and two grandchildren, James Patrick Kemp and Leesa Anne Kemp, both of Chesapeake.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Francis A. Gay Funeral Home, South Norfolk Chapel, by the Rev. Ellen Comstock. Burial will be at 3 p.m. in Azalea Memorial Gardens, Columbia, N.C. The family will be at Francis A. Gay Funeral Home, South Norfolk Chapel, Chesapeake, from 7 to 8 p.m. today. Memorial donations may be made to Portlock United Methodist Church, Chesapeake.
