HARRY E. NORTHEY

Harry E. Northey, 92, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 1997.

A native of Lisbon, N.H., he was a resident of Norfolk for 65 years. At the time of his death he was a resident of the Newport News Baptist Retirement Community. In 1969 he retired as office and credit manager for Rice's Department Store after 41 years of service. He was an active member of Talbot Park Baptist Church and served for many years as its treasurer. For 50 years he was a member of the Norfolk Host Lions Club and twice received its outstanding member award. He also received the Melvin Jones Fellow award from Lions Club International Foundation.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Allene M. Northey; nieces, Jean M. Smith and Betty M. Smith of Newport News and Ellen N. O'Neil of Hertford, N.C.; and nephews, Charles E. Miller of Newport News and James W. Miller of Roanoke Rapids, N.C. He was preceded in death by his brother, F. Elwood Northey of Norfolk and two other brothers.

A graveside service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Newport News, by the Rev. Tim Dixon. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to your favorite charity. Peninsula Funeral Home is handling arrangements. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
