Martha Delk Gale, 96, died peacefully in her home Sunday, Oct. 5, 1997.
She was a native of Smithfield and the daughter of George W. and Annie Cary Delk of Smithfield. She was the widow of Jack M. Gale Sr.
Mrs. Gale was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Col. William Allen Chapter, the Historical Society of Smithfield and a lifelong member of Christ Episcopal Church, Smithfield. She was a graduate of Virginia Intermont College.
She is survived by her sister, Mrs. A.E.S. Stephens of Smithfield; her son, Jack M. Gale Jr. of Smithfield and his wife, Ann F. Gale; three grandchildren and their spouses, Susan G. and Dr. Neil D. Lutins of Greensboro, N.C., Jack M. III and Diana P. Gale of Tampa, Fla., and Catherine G. and Mark S. Minga of Smithfield; and four great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Ivy Hill Cemetery, Smithfield, by the Rev. Pamela Webb. The family will receive friends at the home of her son, 207 Red Point Drive, Smithfield, and suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Isle of Wight Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 97, Smithfield, Va. 23431 or Christ Episcopal Church, 111 S. Church St., Smithfield, Va. 23430. Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield, is handling arrangements. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
