Abraham A. Block, 92, of the 6400 block of Auburn Drive, died Oct. 6, 1997, in his residence.
Mr. Block was a native and lifelong resident of Norfolk. He was the co-owner of the family business of Block Hardware in Norfolk for 42 years until his retirement in 1982. He was the widower of Evelyn Levinson Block, and was preceded in death by his brothers and sister: Joseph, Hyman, Harry and Freda. He was a member of Congregation Beth Chaverim in Virginia Beach, and was a founding member of Temple Israel and its mens' club. He was a World War II Army Veteran and a member of Jewish War Veterans, B'nai Brith, Brith Sholom.
Survivors include a daughter, Kathy Rafal and her husband, Jerry, of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Jeanette Spigel of Newport News, Florence Block of Washington, D.C.; and four grandchildren, Amy Moore and her husband, Paul, Lauren, Jessica and Cari Rafal and a great-grandson, Zachary Evan Moore.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Forest Lawn Cemetery by Rabbi Israel Zoberman. The family will receive friends at 1220 Newmarket Drive, Virginia Beach, following the funeral services. Memorial donations may be made to Congregation Beth Chaverim Building Fund or the Beth Sholom Home of Eastern Virginia. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk, will be handling the arrangements.
