In 1996, the National Fisheries Institute estimated that sports fishermen caught a total of 700,000 offshore migratory fish - including tuna, wahoo, sharks, marlin and dolphin fish along the Atlantic Seaboard. During the same period, in the same area, officials estimate that commercial watermen caught a total of 200,000 offshore fish.
An article in the North Carolina edition of the Oct. 5 Virginian-Pilot incorrectly reported the figures referring to billfish.
