Sallie Dilday Darden, 86, of the 1500 block of Glen Haven Drive, died Oct. 11, 1997, in Southampton Memorial Hospital, Franklin.
Mrs. Darden was born in Bertie County, N.C., the daughter of the late Robert Ashley and Alice Harrell Dilday. She was the widow of John Moses Darden and had retired as a clerk in Rose's Department Store, Franklin. She was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Alice Jean and Adrian May of Scotland Neck, N.C., Faye and John Griffin of Portsmouth, Jeanette and Dave Bussell of Suffolk; a stepdaughter, Audrey Wright of Franklin; two sons and daughters-in-law, John Robert and Virginia Darden of Courtland, Jethro Lee and Lucy Darden of Suffolk; a stepson, Joe Darden of East Chester, N.Y.; a brother, Alton Dilday of Ahoskie, N.C.; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 15 stepgrandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, by the Rev. Dr. Richard Peerey and the Rev. Les Colvin, with burial in Beaver Dam Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home at 7 p.m. today and other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J.L. Darden, 1520 Glen Haven Drive, Suffolk.
