Retired Navy Chief Warrant Officer Darryl Hugh McMain, 51, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 1997.
A native of Memphis, Tenn., he had lived in Virginia Beach and Chesapeake before moving to the peninsula 12 years ago. He retired in 1993 as a Bosn, CWO4, stationed at NAS-Solomon Annex, Md., as OIC Officer Command, after 27 years of service. He received the Surface Warfare Insignia, the Good Conduct Medal, the Expeditionary Medal and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, naming only a few of his many commendations. He was a member of the Supply Hunt Club of South Hampton and the Fort Eustis Golf Association and was past co-president of the Tabb Tiger Band. He attended Liberty Baptist Church, Hampton.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Iris Aycock McMain; a daughter, Ruth Anne McMain of the home; a sister, Cheryl ``Kim'' Patrick and her husband, Larry of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; two brothers, Michael A. McMain and his wife, Susan, of Maryville, Tenn., and Patrick A. McMain and his wife, Angela, of Freeport, Fla.; an aunt, Pauline Breda of Houston, Texas; his father- and mother-in-law, Murdock and Lillian Mason of Chesapeake; three brothers- and sisters-in-law, Simon and Sandy Aycock, Phil and Lillie Devorak and David and June Mason, all of Chesapeake; a sister-in-law, Joyce Gettier of Portsmouth; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Hampton Memorial Gardens, Hampton. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. in Amory Funeral Home, Grafton.
