BERTHA H. RUSSELL

Bertha Hodges Russell, 92, of Butterfly Drive, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 1997, in Chesapeake General Hospital.

Mrs. Russell was a native of Norfolk, and was the daughter of the late Herbert and Elizabeth Pell Hodges and the widow of John Franklin Russell. She was a cosmetologist and a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Jean W. Mitchell and her husband, Andrew J. Mitchell Jr., of Rocky Mount, Va.; two brothers, Herbert V. Hodges of Richmond and William L. Hodges of Virginia Beach; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in St. Thomas Episcopal Church, the Rev. Michael W. Jones officiating. Entombment will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Viewing will begin on Tuesday. Family will receive friends at Oman Funeral Home, Great Bridge, on Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m., and the family syggests that memorials be made to St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 233 Mann Drive, Chesapeake, Va. 23320.
