BURGLARIES: Since early in September, about 25 medical offices have been burglarized in the area around Chesapeake General Hospital on North Battlefield Boulevard and near the Department of Motor Vehicles office at North Battlefield Boulevard and Volvo Parkway.

The suspects are taking only cash and postage stamps.

BUSINESSES ROBBED: Three local businesses were robbed in September.

Two of the businesses were robbed on Sept. 9. The Moovies, in the 3100 block of Airline Blvd., was robbed at 9:30 a.m.; the 7-Eleven in the 5100 block of Portsmouth Blvd. was robbed at 4:20 p.m.

On Sept. 25, the Burger King in the 600 block of Airline Blvd. was robbed at 9:45 a.m.

In each case, the suspect approached employees as they left the businesses with bank deposit bags. He demanded and received the bags.

SHOOTING: On Sept. 28, about 1:10 a.m., police responded to a shooting in the 100 block of Halifax St.

The victim, Carl Shawn Turner, 21, of the 700 block of South St. in Portsmouth, later died.

Police learned that Turner had been in an arguement with someone at a large party. Although the two initially went their separate ways, they began arguing again outside and the shooting occurred.

Detectives were unable to get information from people attending the party about the suspect responsible for the shooting.

UNSOLVED CRIMES: Police are trying to solve a series of crimes that have occurred in the 1000 block of 23rd St.

The crimes include: destruction of property, shooting into an occupied dwelling, burglary and arson.

A white Lincoln Town Car was seen leaving the area after one of the incidents.

BIKE SHOP ROBBED: On Dec. 12, 1996, about 6:19 p.m., Snow's Bicycle Shop in the 100 block of E. Mellen St. was robbed by two men armed with handguns.

The suspects forced the owner and his two small children into the rear of the store. They then demanded money.

After giving them cash, the owner was shot in the back. The suspects then fled.

The first suspect is described as an African-American man with a thin build, about 6 feet 2 inches tall, He was wearing a blue handkerchief over his face.

The second suspect, also African-American, is about 5 feet 10 inches tall. KEYWORDS: CRIME LINE
