John Cecil Shirley Sr., 89, of the 5900 block of Blackwater Road died Oct. 14, 1997, in Chesapeake.

A self-employed farmer, he was a charter member of Blackwater Hunt Club and a member of Blackwater Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary K. Johnson of Chesapeake; two sons, John C. Shirley Jr. of Norfolk, Evan L. Shirley of Haines City, Fla.; a sister, Katherine Shirley Charlton of Chesapeake; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Blackwater Baptist Church, Virginia Beach, by the Rev. Mike Jones and the Rev. Ralph Horn. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A reception will follow the service in the church social hall. The family will receive friends at Graham Funeral Home, South Norfolk Chapel, from 7 to 8 p.m. today and at the home of his daughter on Livingston Ave. at all other times. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Blackwater Baptist Church Memorial Fund. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
