Charles Taylor ``Chick'' Martin Jr., 78, of the 900 block of Hanover Ave., died Oct. 19, 1997, in a Norfolk hospital.

Mr. Martin was a native of Huntsville, Ala., and a resident of Norfolk since 1945. He was the president and owner of Wales and Bond Insurance Agency and had been associated with the firm for over 50 years. He was a 1941 graduate of the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis. He was the first in the city of Norfolk to be a licensed Charter Property Casualty Underwriter.

Mr. Martin was a member of Norfolk Sports Club, Norfolk Yacht and Country Club, Isaac Walton League, and a life master of the American Contract Bridge League. He was an avid hunter.

Survivors include his wife, Lydia Ruth Martin; a daughter, Catharine Martin White of Virginia Beach; a son, Charles Taylor Martin III of Norfolk; a stepdaughter, Maria Page Freeman of Wilmington, N.C.; a stepson, Robert Albert Freeman of Wilmington; a brother, Robert William Martin of Huntsville; and four grandchildren, Jenifer Rush White, Catharine Glover White, Mason Preston White and Charles Taylor Martin IV.

A chapel service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk, by the Rev. Francis E. Collins. Burial will be in Huntsville, Ala. In lieu of flowers, memorials may take the form of contributions to Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
