JAMES NEAL

James Neal, 73, of the 2400 block of Dunbarton Drive died early Saturday morning, Oct. 18, 1997.

Born in Hazzard Perry, Ky., he was a retired fire chief of Dayton, Ohio, and a U.S. Marine platoon sergeant in World War II. He was a faithful member of the New Mount Zion Church of God Holiness, serving on the Deacon Board and Finance Committee.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Sadie M. Neal; seven children, Karen (John) Knight of Montgomery, Ala., Pamela (James) Backus of Columbus, Ohio, James Neal of Dayton, Michael Neal of Columbus, Larry (Vicki) Neal of Fort Wayne, Ind., Darrel Neal of Dayton, Jennifer Humphries of Ashland, Ohio; seven step-children; one sister, Helen (John) Weaver of Dayton; two brothers-in-law, John Weaver, Pirl Combs of Dayton; 17 grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family will be receiving family and friends from 8 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake. A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in New Mt. Zion Church of God Holiness by the Rev. Clayton Hall. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Virginia Beach Blvd. ILLUSTRATION: photo KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
