BULLETIN BOARD

VIRGINIA BEACH

The school division is publishing a collection of critical work on teaching practices from the best source of all: teachers. Called ``A Tapestry of Knowledge,'' the professional journal will allow teachers to share their knowledge and expertise. Leanne Self, a former Virginia Beach Teacher of the Year, will edit the work. The first issue is scheduled to come out in September 1998. Teachers are invited to an informational meeting from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Oct. 30 at Ocean Lakes High School. Those interested should RSVP by calling Beach Line at 427-3580 and entering 606.

CHESAPEAKE

It will be a long weekend for the School Board. Its two-day board retreat will begin at 4 p.m. today at Hugo A. Owens Middle School and will continue all day Saturday beginning at 8:30 a.m. Discussion topics will include test scores, programs for gifted students, school opening and closing times, kindergarten hours and the policy for naming schools.

On Monday, the board will hold its regular meeting at 7 p.m. Expected is a decision on whether to require a 2.0 grade-point average for students participating in Virginia High School League activities, including sports. There also will be a public hearing on proposed attendance zones for the replacement school for Deep Creek Intermediate and Deep Creek Central Elementary schools.

For those who may be more in the mood for a frolic than board meetings, Cedar Road Elementary School's Parent-Teacher Association has just the thing: a Fall Frolic on Saturday. The event will include pony rides, games, a jump house, face painting, storytelling, a silent auction and, of course, food.

The frolicking runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the school grounds at 1605 Cedar Road.
