Kenneth Rountree ``Meat'' Stallings Sr., 68, of Route 1, died Thursday morning, Oct. 23, 1997, in his home.
A native of Perquimans County, he was the widower of Ruby Riddick Stallings and the son of the late Herbert and Alethia Rountree Stallings. He was a farmer and was instrumental in the operation of Harrell Funeral Home, Gatesville. He was a member of Sandy Cross Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Phyllis S. Harrell of Gatesville; two sons, Kenneth Rountree Stallings Jr. of Belvidere and James Arden Stallings of Corapeake; three sisters, Joyce Overman and Helene Wiggins, both of Hobbsville, and Audrey Cross of Suffolk; four brothers, S. Ray Stallings of Hobbsville, Dewey Stallings, J.H. Stallings and Claxton Stallings, all of Belvidere; eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild. He was predeceased by a daughter, Brenda Sue Stallings, and two brothers, Lloyd and Delton Stallings.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Sandy Cross Baptist Church Cemetery by the Revs. Vern Gilmer and Wayne Gardner.
