Norval Lee ``Shorty'' Sanders, formerly of Virginia Beach, died Saturday Oct.18, 1997.
He was a veteran of World War II where he was wounded in the South Pacific and received a Purple Heart. He retired from the Norfolk-Portsmouth Beltline Railroad.
Survivors include his wife, Mary E. Sanders; three sons, Tony Boothe Sanders of Virginia Beach, Norval Lee ``Bo'' Sanders Jr. and Timothy Ray Sanders, both of Glade Spring; a brother, Bob Gillen of Saltville; four sisters, Gladys Holmes of Glade Spring, Tine Cannon and Betty Jo Gillen of Saltville, Dixie Garland of Meadowview; and five grandchildren.
A funeral was conducted Oct. 20 at D.R. Henderson Funeral Home Chapel, Saltville, by the Rev. Bobby Briggs. Entombment with VFW military rites followed at Mount Rose Mausoleum in Glade Spring. The family requests donations to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association in lieu of flowers. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
