FRISCO PIER LEADS MOST LOCAL SPOTS FOR REELING IN BIG CATCHES TUESDAY

Anglers on Frisco Pier Tuesday caught a lot of nice sea mullet, toadfish and some large spot. Scattered small puppy drum also were landed.

Pier fishing was somewhat slow along the rest of the Dare coast.

Five drum in the 40- to 50-pound class were landed on Avon Pier Monday night. One big drum and few sea mullet were taken Tuesday morning.

Rodanthe Pier reported a 45-pound drum decked and a smaller drum released late Monday afternoon. A few sea mullet were landed Tuesday.

North of Oregon Inlet, a few sea mullet weighing as much as 1 1/2 pounds, scattered pigfish, small flounder and throwback puppy drum were taken on Outer Banks Pier.

A few puppy drum were landed on Jennette's Pier.

A 2 1/2-pound speckled trout was taken on bloodworms and few small bottom fish were landed on Nags Head Pier.

Avalon Pier anglers caught only a few sea mullet, skate and dogfish during the day.

Small sea mullet, a few keeper flounder and a keeper puppy drum were taken on Kitty Hawk Pier.

Surf fishing along the northern beaches and around Oregon Inlet was fairly slow with a few small bluefish and bottom fish landed.

Scattered sea mullet, a few bluefish and an occasional puppy drum were caught in the surf from Rodanthe to Buxton. Some small striped bass were released.

A 15-pound striper was taken at Cape Point, along with fair numbers of tailor blues. Flounder and a 2-pound, 11-ounce speckled trout were landed along the south beach.

Bluefish, flounder, some nice sea mullet and a few puppy drum were beached by surfcasters from Ramp 55 to Hatteras Inlet. Bluefishing was good around the inlet, and some good speckled trout catches were reported from the sound.

No boating activity was reported offshore of Oregon Inlet. Charters off Hatteras landed a few king mackerel.

The water temperature was 64 degrees Tuesday at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck, and 70 degrees at Frisco Pier on Hatteras Island.
