Charlie R. ``Buddy'' Parker Jr., 71, of the 1300 block of Arce Court died Oct. 29, 1997, in Hertford, N.C.

Born in Hertford, he had retired in 1989 as a construction worker for Birsch Construction Co. after 45 years of service. He was a member of Bagley's Chapel, Hertford, N.C., and the son of the late Charlie and Hattie Parker.

Survivors include his wife, Willow M. Parker of Norfolk; four daughters, Ethel Jones, Marie Filihiol, Shirley Bullock and Susie Parker of Norfolk and Virginia Beach; eight sons, Robert, Charlie, Curtis, Lester, Brian, Martin, Bennett and Clinton of Norfolk and Virginia Beach; four sisters, Mattie Davis, Grizzle Miller, Lillie Spellman and Mary McCrea of Hertford; five brothers, Josephus, James, George, Lindwood and Leonidas, all of Hertford; 25 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday in St. Andrew's Church of God in Christ by the Rev. James Ellis. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake. The family will receive friends at 1266 W. 37th St., Norfolk. Viewing of the body will be at Carlos A. Howard Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, from 3 to 8 p.m. today.
