John Raymond Marston, 85, died Oct. 28, 1997, in his residence.
He was born Jan. 27, 1912, to Leonora Krausse Marston and William Plummer Marston. He was the husband of the late Sophia Rogers Marston. Educated in the Portsmouth School System, Mr. Marston was the president of Rogers Manufacturing Corp., a company that manufactured both aluminum and canvas products.
Mr. Marston was an active member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Portsmouth, where he served in many ways including several terms as vestryman and as both junior and senior wardens. He also served on the board of directors of the Holiday House of Portsmouth. He was a member of Portsmouth Naval Lodge No. 100, A.F. & A.M., the Portsmouth Scottish Rite and the Khedive Temple.
Survivors include his only child, Diane Marston Lynch; a son-in-law, Benjamin P. Lynch Jr.; three granddaughters, Anne Marston Lynch, Martha Benn Lynch and Margaret Leigh Lynch.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Olive Branch Cemetery, Portsmouth, by the Rev. Brian Hobden. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today in Snellings Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel.
