THE FIRST SUNDAY in a Portsmouth series of arts events continues today with shows at several High Street galleries, and free admission to all.
Besides a 2 p.m. program at The Arts Center of the Portsmouth Museums, the downtown area boasts receptions at Art Atrium II and Olde Towne galleries.
Art Atrium, at 629 High St., is showcasing many of its regular artists, including Ethel Clarke and Frank Jennings Jr., along with guest artist Ken Wright. Meet them at the opening, 2 to 5 p.m. today.
At High and Court streets, Olde Towne Gallery is opening a show of creative basketry by Robbie Schiff and David Riley of Virginia Beach. The gallery opens at 1 p.m.; the reception's from 2 to 5 p.m.
Across from Olde Towne, the Visual Arts Center at Tidewater Community College is featuring spirit dolls by visionary artist Cher Shaffer, prints by Linda Gourley and a collection of exotic textiles. Open today from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
