HAROLD A. CHASE

Retired U.S. Navy Chief Engineman, Harold Arthur Chase, 64, of the 100 block of Rogers Lane, died Oct. 31, 1997, in his home.

Mr. Chase retired from the U.S. Navy as a chief engineman in June 1972, having served over 20 years, including two tours in riverine warfare craft (PBR's) where he was awarded the Bronze Star with Combat ``V'' and earned the Patrol Craft Insignia and the Vietnam Service Medal with three stars. He was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5390 , Portsmouth.

After his retirement from the Navy, he worked for Industrial Marine Service for 10 years and at Petro Chemical, Norfolk. While Mr. Chase lived in Tiverton, he worked for Allied Maintenance. Mr. Chase was also a member of the Fleet Reserve Branch No. 19 and the American Veterans Association. He was a member of the St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Portsmouth.

Survivors include his wife Mildred Eileen Chase nee Mildred Eileen Dias of Middletown, R.I.; stepsons, Kenneth Burns of Portsmouth, R.I. and Steven Rapoza of Jamestown, R.I.; sons, Wayne A. Chase and Sandy E. Chase, both of Norfolk; stepdaughter, Elizabeth Garofallo of Middletown; brother, Ronald Chase of Meridith, N.H.; sisters, Teresa Gallagher, Maggie Chase and Betty Chase, all of Meridith, and Lorraine Morrell of Orlando, Fla.; and eight grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Earl Chase and Velma Chase, nee Velma Judkins.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in Hambly Funeral Home, Brick House, 30 Red Cross Ave., Newport, R.I. A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Portsmouth, R.I. Interment will be in St. Mary's Churchyard. A Eucharist of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Mary's Episcopal Church.
