Head-on collision
with truck kills
Elizabeth City man
An Elizabeth City man died early Wednesday when the Jeep he was driving crossed the center line on U.S. Route 17, struck a tractor-trailer head-on and overturned.
The truck driver was injured.
Glenn A. Bailey, 31, of the 1100 block of West Williams Circle in Elizabeth City, died of injuries, according to Dave Hughes, a spokesman for Chesapeake police.
The truck driver, Frankie L. McKinney, 58, from Vale, N.C., suffered minor injuries, Hughes said. McKinney was treated at Chesapeake General Hospital and released, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
The accident occurred at 1:25 a.m. Wednesday about one mile north of the North Carolina state line, Hughes said. The 1991 Jeep Renegade was southbound and apparently crossed the center line into the path of the northbound tractor-trailer.
Bailey was wearing a seatbelt, Hughes said.
