DARE COUNTY
OUTREACH FOR THANKSGIVING: The seventh annual Dare County effort to provide needy families with a Thanksgiving meal has begun. The Roanoke Island Woman's Club, along with the Department of Social Services, will sponsor the drive.
Last year, donations of 57 dinner baskets, 119 food certificates to local grocery stores and 20 dinner certificates to local restaurants went to needy families, elderly and disabled individuals.
Donations can be mailed to the Roanoke Island Woman's Club by Nov. 10, care of Lois Bradshaw, 104 Musket Lane, Manteo, N.C. 27954. Anyone interested in providing a dinner basket can contact Louise Riley at 473-3197 before Nov. 17.
ROUNDTABLE FOR VOLUNTEERS: The Dare Voluntary Action Center will hold a roundtable Thursday at the Chamber of Commerce Building at 9 a.m. The forum will explore the needs of nonprofit and volunteer groups. Representatives from Currituck County will participate.
This forum is one of several held throughout the state as part of research by the Unified State Planning Team. The data collected from this forum will be forwarded to the Governor's Office. To participate, call 480-0500.
CHRISTMAS PARADE: The Dare County Christmas Parade will be held Saturday, Dec. 6, at 11 a.m. in downtown Manteo. The theme is ``Winter Wonderland.'' To enter a marching unit, vehicle or float, call Lynda Midgett at 473-2774 after 6 p.m.
MARKETING WORKSHOP: How to Make Your Marketing Make Money workshop will be held Tuesday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Ramada Inn in Kill Devil Hills. BAZAAR AND AUCTION: Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church will hold a bazaar and auction on Saturday starting at 10 a.m. The silent auction runs 10 a.m. to noon and the live auction starts at 3 p.m. Location is 300 Ananias St. in downtown Manteo.
Donations of gift certificates, overnight hotel stays, gift baskets and items, both new and used, are needed. Call 473-2089 for information and to donate items or make crafts for the bazaar. All proceeds go for church projects.
