John Early Cason died in his home on Mill Landing Road in Virginia Beach at 3 p.m. Nov. 9, 1997.
He was born Dec. 22, 1923, the son of Mary Garnett Cason and Sledd Whitehead Cason. A lifetime resident of Virginia Beach and member of Charity United Methodist Church, he was a World War II Army veteran and retired from civil service at NAS Oceana. He was a 50-year member of AF&AM Lodge 25. Always a man of honor, he was devoted to his family and his many good friends. He lived a long and happy life, full of adventure and travel. He enjoyed working with his hands to create things of beauty.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Velma Stradling Cason; two daughters, Ann C. Crew and husband, John, of Washington, N.C., Carol C. Stacey and husband, Henry, of Charlottesville, Va.; son, John Early Cason Jr. and his wife, Elizabeth; and two grandchildren, Helen and Philip Cason, all of Sugar Grove, Va.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Charity United Methodist Church by the Rev. Talmadge Markham Jr. and the Rev. Frank Jennings, with graveside Masonic rites at Charity Church Cemetery.
