BESSIE B. MASON

Bessie Bernice Mason, 64, of the 4100 block of Dock Landing Road died Nov. 11, 1997, in her daughter's residence.

A native of Richlands, Va., she was the widow of Cecil P. Mason and the daughter of the late Arthur Newberry and the late Ceclia Newberry. She had retired from White Tower Restaurant and was a member of Lee Memorial Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Frances M. Garner and her husband, Alan, of Chesapeake; a son, Steven R. Mason of Portsmouth; a sister, Beatrice Cantrell of Pounding Mill, Va.; two brothers, Claude Newberry of Raven, Va., and Ivan Newberry of Bluefield, W.Va.; five grandchildren, Cynthia M. Garner, Samantha N. Garner, Richard A. Twiford, Heather B. Mason and Shannon P. Mason; three great-grandchildren; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Hubbard, and three brothers, Junior Newberry, Sherman Newberry and Donald Newberry Sr.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in Lee Memorial Baptist Church by Dr. Ray O. Jones. Entombment will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Lee Memorial Baptist Church Building Fund. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
