WALTER B. JERNIGAN JR.

Walter Blackwell ``Teenie'' Jernigan Jr., 56, of the 4300 block of Pont West Drive, died Nov. 11, 1997, after a long battle with cancer. He was at home at the time of his death, surrounded by family and friends.

A lifelong resident of Portsmouth, he was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. His church home was Westhaven Baptist, where he served as deacon and trustee. Walter was a well-respected agent for Nationwide Insurance, where he served more than 15 years. His previous employers include Portsmouth Water Dept., Portsmouth Lumber and Tidewater Produce.

He was a member of Portsmouth/Chesapeake Life Underwriters as a past president, the Portsmouth Sports Club receiving the honor of ``Sports Club Member of the Year'' in 1997, the Elizabeth Manor Country Club. He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam.

He is survived by his wife, Dreama Spence Jernigan; mother, Mildred J. Jernigan; four sons, David N. Jernigan, Roy E. ``Bo'' Ferguson, Paul W. ``Butch'' Ferguson, J. Stephen Ferguson; and 12 grandchildren.

Our loss is heaven's gain.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Westhaven Baptist Church by the Rev. W. Thomas Wood with interment to follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends today in the church social hall from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Loving Funeral Home, Churchland, is handling arrangements.
