MARIE J. MELTON

Marie Jordan Melton, 59, of 653 King's Hwy. died Nov. 14, 1997.

A native of Nansemond County, she was the daughter of Marie Saunders Jordan of Suffolk and the late Charles Driver Jordan. Ms. Melton was retired from the Suffolk Public School System as a visiting teacher. She was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the Village Garden Club and the Chuckatuck Bridge Club.

Besides her mother, she is survived by a daughter, Ginny Lee Gudger of Windsor; two brothers, Ritchie A. Jordan and C. Frank Jordan, both of Suffolk; two grandchildren, Kaitlin and Cody Gudger; and a special friend, O. Holmes Carter of Suffolk.

A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church by the Rev. John M. Brackin III, followed by burial in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today and other times at her residence. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 902 Pennsylvania Ave., Suffolk, Va. 23434, or to Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, 220 King's Hwy., Suffolk, Va. 23432.
