MARIAN H. WALKER

Marian Brown Horne Walker, 77, of the 2200 block of Deep Creek Blvd., died Nov. 13, 1997, in Manning Convalescent Home.

A Portsmouth native, she was the widow of Robert D. Walker. Mrs. Walker retired as a cafeteria worker for the Portsmouth Public School System after 10 years, and she was the first African-American school traffic guard for the City of Portsmouth's Police Department where she had worked for five years. She was a member and former trustee of St. Paul A.M.E. Church, Portsmouth, where she was also a past clerk, past choir directress, director of Vacation Bible School, church historian and member of various church activities and organizations. She was a past member of Emanuel A.M.E. Church, Portsmouth, a historian for the African American Historical Society and a host for S.H.A.R.E. Food Bank. She was everyone's ``Nanna.''

Survivors include her daughters, Mary A. Wiggins, Shirley Sanders and Esther White, all of Portsmouth; a son, the Rev. J.B. Horne Jr. of Decatur, Ga.; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, friends and a very special devoted companion.

A funeral will be conducted at noon Tuesday in Emanuel A.M.E. Church, Portsmouth, by the Rev. Charles Harvin and the Rev. James F. Mason. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery, Portsmouth. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will begin at 10 a.m. Monday. The body will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. Tuesday. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY DEATH OBITUARY
