SUFFOLK INVITES INPUT AS IT SEEKS WAY TO LIFT ROADWAYS' TRAFFIC LOAD

Thursday, the city will release transportation reports identifying Suffolk roadways that will need to be improved to handle increased traffic due to growth.

The reports are part of a new comprehensive land plan being developed to help the city make zoning decisions to manage growth, and the city would like residents to add their expertise and advice on what needs to be done.

Planning officials will explain the information at 6:30 p.m. in City Council Chambers at 441 Market Street.

Robert P. Goumas, Suffolk's long-term planner, said the city will then work with consultants on the preferred growth plan. Another round of public meetings will be held on that plan sometime in January.

City officials have been working on developing a new land plan for more than a year. LDR International, a Columbus, Md.-based company, was hired to help develop the plan.

The plan was last updated in 1989.

City officials say a good land plan is the key to preparing for growth.
