Mr. M.L. ``Gabby'' Dowell, 80, died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 1997, at Forsyth Memorial Hospital.
He was born Aug. 19, 1917, in Forsyth County to Charles Wilson Dowell Sr. and Ida Tucker Dowell. He was a member of Hillcrest Golf Club. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mayme Brinegar, Laila Whitley and Ruth Huie.
Survivors include his wife, Mae Dowell of the home; two daughters, Barbara Barco of Grandy and Mickey Maynard of Durham; three grandchildren, Alexandra Crutchfield, Derek Maynard and Benjamin Barco; two brothers, Claxton Dowell of Galax, Va., and Charles W. Dowell Jr. of Winston-Salem.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel by the Rev. J.H. Knight. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 1386-A Westgate Center Drive, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27103-2949. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
