SHERWOOD L. BELL

Sherwood L. ``Sherky'' Bell, 51, of the 200 block of Fillmore Place, died Nov. 21, 1997, in Maryview Medical Center, Portsmouth.

A native of Portsmouth, he was a pressman for the The Virginian-Pilot for 27 years. Mr. Bell was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, Norfolk, and Morning Star Baptist Church, where he was a former associate minister, former adult Sunday school teacher, former member of the senior and male choirs. He attended Norfolk State University and was a graduate of Virginia Union Seminary. Mr. Bell was former president of Graphic International Union.

He was a loving and devoted son to Louise E. Bell of Chesapeake, and is also survived by three sisters, Joan L. Bell of Chesapeake, Rhonda Bell Burrell of Portsmouth, Anita Bell Taylor of California; a brother, Cromwell Bell of Portsmouth; a niece that resided in the home, Tannisha Bell; three aunts; two uncles; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. He was predeceased by his father, Charlie Bell.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Morning Star Baptist Church, Portsmouth, by the Rev. Roy Smith Jr. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will begin at noon Tuesday. The body will be taken to the church at noon Wednesday. Oliver Person, of the 2600 block of Harvard Drive, died Nov. 18, 1997.
