George Edward Schachle, 68, of the 500 block of Swicegood Waitman Road died Friday, Nov. 28, 1997, in N.C. Baptist Hospital after one week of critical illness.
He was born Aug. 26, 1929, in Elk City, Okla., to A.H. Schachle and Flora Walker Schachle. He was a retired employee of RJR, member of Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He also played professional baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Swicegood Schachle; sons, Joe Schachle of Raleigh, George Edward Schachle of Fuquay-Varina, N.C., Keith Schachle of Atlanta, Ga.; a brother, Jack Schachle of Lubbuck, Texas; sisters, Margaret Schmidt of Norman, Okla., Beth Hufnagle of Okarche, Okla.; and seven grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church by Fr. Joseph Kelleher. A Mass of Christian burial will be in Midway United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today in Davidson Funeral Home followed by a prayer vigil service at 7:30 p.m. At other times, the family will be at the home. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
