Pruning, biological control of insects and soil preparation are among the varied topics to be discussed by 12 horticultural experts at the Garden Symposium at Williamsburg, Va., March 21-26.
Exploring the theme, "New Horizons in Horticulture," the American Horticultural Society will join Colonial Williamsburg for the first time to present this leading event against the appropriate backdrop of more than 90 Williamsburg gardens.
Among the outstanding authorities from nine states scheduled to give slide-commentaries is Phillip Alampi, secretary of the New Jersey Department of Agriculture, who will open the 1965 session with a discussion of the week's theme.
Landscape Architect Brooke E. Wigginton, FASLA of Wheeling, W. V., will speak on "Whither Garden Design" to be followed by Oscar T. Eichmann, soil consultant, Huntington Station, N. Y. Eichmann's topic will be "Soil Preparation and Fertility." Donald Wyman, horticulturist at the Arnold Arboretum, Jamaica Plain, Mass., will give pointers on "Low Maintenance Gardening."
Other featured speakers will include Everitt L. Miller, assistant director, Department of Horticulture, Longwood Gardens, Kennett Square, Pa., and the Superintendent of the Arboreta and Botanic Gardens in Los Angeles, George H. Spalding, who will talk about "The Unique Flora of Western Australia."
