There are numerous plants of R. johnstoneanum in the National Rhododendron Garden at Olinda in varying colors from white, white tinged pink, pale yellow and a fairly deep yellow.
Planted in groups along one of the walks, they have grown together forming a fairly dense hedge and the dark green leaves make a pleasing background for the flowers in the different shadings of colors previously mentioned.
Along the walk there are plantings in the Maddenii Series and Sub-series, R. ciliicalyx , maddenii , nuttallii , dalhousiae , lindleyi , polyandrum and taggianum to mention a few. The walk, which overlooks the Kurume Bowl, is one of the most popular areas in the garden. Visitors are also attracted to this area by the perfume of the flowers in October and November.
