FRASER VALLEY CHAPTER
Milton Wildfong
Charter Member of the Fraser Valley Rhododendron Society and long-time member of the Vancouver Rhododendron Society, in recognition of his exemplary contributions to our Societies and to promotion and appreciation of rhododendrons. As a member of the American Rhododendron Society, Milton has been author of numerous informative and humorous articles in the Journal, as well as providing many unique and outstanding crosses to the Seed Exchange.
Milton is generous with his time, expertise and his gardens. His background in history provides us with fascinating accounts of the early plant explorers. As mentor to our fledgling group he inspires us with much practical and technical advice. Always willing to counsel. Milton is endlessly patient in sharing his wide experience.
Many years of research and study have made Milton widely knowledgeable of plants in general and rhododendrons specifically. It is in appreciation of his unfailing generosity that our Society takes great pleasure and pride in presenting our highest award, the Bronze Medal, March 20, 1989.
MASSACHUSETTS CHAPTER
Richard W. Chaikin
The Board of Directors is honored to award you this medal in recognition of your service to the Chapter. You have recently completed five years as Editor of the "Rosebay" during which you have set standards of excellence as one of the best newsletters in the Society.
You have also served on our Board of Directors and headed or served on many committees during your years of membership as well as serving on or heading several National Committees. We have found that whatever task you take on is well done.
The Chapter is proud to present you with its highest award, the Bronze Medal of the Society, April 21, 1989.
NORTH KITSAP CHAPTER
Henry R. Helm
The North Kitsap Chapter wishes to congratulate you and present to you, "Hank", the Bronze Medal award. Your presentations of methods of propagating rhododendrons have been of great assistance to our members. We wish to thank you for sharing and bringing so many plants to our meetings to give to new members and guests. The numerous charts on rhododendron genealogy that you have supplied are very much appreciated for the abundance of information included. Among your many other contributions, you have served as an officer and for several years published our newsletter.
With this Medal, we wish to pay special tribute to you and thank you for your time and devotion to the American Rhododendron Society.
Neal N. Nunamaker
The membership of the North Kitsap Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society is honored to present to you, "Mike", this Bronze Medal. You have been most helpful always to our Chapter in obtaining plants for our meetings and providing them to new members. You have served as our Program Chairman, as President, and on many committees, participating in all our projects. Your leadership and enthusiasm have been an inspiration to our old and new members of the Hybridizers Group and you have devoted much effort to the Species Foundation, particularly as Chairman of the Pollen Bank. You have earned a special place of honor among our members.
PORTLAND CHAPTER
Paula Cash
The Portland Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society awards its highest honor, the Bronze Medal, to Paula Cash in recognition of her many contributions. She has served as Chairman of the Early Show, has worked diligently on a major reorganization of the show schedule and has regularly served at the classification table during both the Early and May Shows.
As a member of the Chapter Board of Directors, she has repeatedly helped prepare the membership roster. In addition to all of this effort at the chapter level, she has found time to serve for several years as the Executive Secretary of the National Society.
The award conveys a sincere "Thank you, Paula. May18, 1989.
Adele Jones
The Portland Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society awards its highest honor, the Bronze Medal, to Adele Jones in recognition of her outstanding contributions. In 1984 she was Co-chairman of the Mother's Day Show. That fall she accepted the challenge of serving as Chairman of the Smith Garden Committee. Her adroitness in steering a course through uncharted waters has resulted in making the Smith Garden a smoothly functioning three chapter project. She has given countless hours phoning, driving, corresponding, and always inspiring enthusiasm for the Smith Garden.
In 1985 she became Editor of the ARS Journal, juggling two jobs well and demonstrating her efficiency which she always tempers with warmth and compassion.
For these attributes this award is gratefully given, May 18, 1989.
Harvey Welch
The Portland Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society awards its highest honor, the Bronze Medal, to Harvey Welch in recognition of his service to the Chapter. He served as Registration Chairman of the 1983 ARS National Convention. In addition, he secured unusual and beautiful fabrics that were made into tablecloths, napkins and cushions which were sold at the National Convention.
He has set up tables at various locations to display and sell rhododendrons for the Chapter. He has served as a member of the Chapter Board of Directors.
This award is given to gratefully acknowledge these contributions, May 18, 1989.
PRINCETON CHAPTER
Jeanne Gustafson
The Board of Directors of the Princeton Chapter, American Rhododendron Society, proudly awards the Bronze Medal to Jeanne Gustafson. Your efforts as Vice President, Board of Directors member, Book Chairman, Annual Dinner Chairman, and Annual Truss Show Chairman fully warrant this recognition.
For opening your home and garden to the Chapter's propagation workshop and cutting exchange; for continually giving of yourself to benefit our chapter; for dedicated support of every chapter effort; the Princeton Chapter presents this medal in warmest appreciation to Jeanne Gustafson at the constituted meeting of the membership assembled the nineteenth day of March, nineteen hundred and eighty-nine.
