JARS v47n1 - ARS Welcomes Three New Chapters
ARS Welcomes Three New Chapters
Barbara R. Hall, Executive Director
Gloucester, Virginia
At the Sept. 25,1992, meeting of the American Rhododendron Society's National Board of Directors, three new chapters were approved, bringing the total numberofchapters to 70. The new chapters are as follows: The Pilchuck Chapter - This group meets in the Marysville (Wash.) Town Centre Mall's community room on the first Thursday of each month, except July and August. They expect to draw members from central Snohomish County and the surrounding area. The Chapter is under the dedicated leadership of President Amby Schultz who worked very hard to organize the group. They are an active and growing group and we welcome them to the ARS!
The Ann Arbor Chapter - This enthusiastic group meets at the Matthaei Botanical Gardens, University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich., on the first Wednesday of the month (except July, August and December). They anticipate drawing members from the lower peninsula of Michigan, initially, but hope that increasing interest in rhododendrons in that area over the next few years will support the development of a northern Michigan chapter which will include the western coast of Michigan along Lake Michigan. Their founding president is Carolyn Dana Lewis, a dynamo of energy and organizational skills. We congratulate them and welcome them to our growing family!
The Nanaimo Rhododendron Society - This is the eighth chapter in District 1 (British Columbia, Canada), the fastest growing district of the ARS. Located on Vancouver Island, the Chapter will draw members from all of Nanaimo proper plus the outlying borders as far north as Parksville and as far south as Ladysmith. They meet at the Beban Park Recreational Centre on the second Thursday of each month. Everett Jefferson, Alternate District 1 Director, was instrumental in helping the Chapter get established. Ward Porter is the Chapter president. We send them our best wishes!
