NORTH ISLAND CHAPTER
JoAnn Foster
JoAnn was a founding member of the North Island Rhododendron Society. She has been president, on the executive, and an active director of the American Rhododendron Society. An inspiration to everyone she meets, her garden is a showpiece of beautiful and unusual rhododendrons. In frequent trips to the States, she mastered the customs forms and brought many specimens of rhododendrons back to Canada as well as a wealth of horticultural books. We thank JoAnn for her generous dedication of time and energy to our club as we present her with a Bronze Medal Award.
Harry Wright
Harry was our founding president and is the force behind our continued success. He urged and encouraged some of our original members from Qualicum to form their own chapter, which became the highly successful M.A.R.S. Chapter. He is tireless in furthering the aims of the ARS, not only on Vancouver Island, but is willing to travel to the mainland to disseminate his knowledge of rhododendrons and azaleas. His demonstrations on growing from cuttings are always enjoyed where he also give timely tips on growing healthy rhododendrons. The Chapter thanks Harry for the many years of giving of his time.
NORTH KITSAP CHAPTER
Agnes Brauer
Agnes Brauer, you learned rhododendron appreciation at your mother's knees and have extended the collection to include your prize-winning beauties. Along the way you served our North Kitsap Chapter in countless ways - as an officer, frequent convention representative, faithful work party member, and most recently as our tour co-chair. Whenever you see a need, you generously give of yourself. In recognition of your many years of cheer and dedication, we are pleased to present you with this Bronze Medal, our Chapter's highest award. Oct. 17, 1995.
Dorothy Noble
In the more than 25 years since you helped found our Chapter, you have served reliably and tirelessly without being asked, doing the less glamorous work needed to keep our Chapter running smoothly. In particular, we wish to thank you for a quarter century of kitchen work, for bringing and arranging the centerpieces for our potlucks, and for organizing our Chapter's trips to gardens in other areas. We are pleased to present you this Bronze Medal - our Chapter's highest award - with gratitude for your decades of service to our Chapter and for your more than 50 years of volunteer service to plant lovers in our community.
Patricia Russell
Your unstinting devotion to the preservation and dissemination of species rhododendrons, your years of volunteer work at the Rhododendron Species Foundation, and your establishment of a garden full of rare and exemplary species are both recognized and deeply appreciated. The lasting success of the North Kitsap Chapter is owing in no small part to you and the other founding members who had the foresight to recognize the grandeur of this genus and who actively supported the Chapter and the Rhododendron Species Foundation through the years. With appreciation of your outstanding service, the North Kitsap Chapter presents its highest honor, the Bronze Medal. October 1995.
POTOMAC VALLEY CHAPTER
Norman Beaudry
The Potomac Valley Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society is pleased to award the Bronze Medal to Norman Beaudry for his many years of service. Norman has served in nearly all the offices of the Chapter, including two years as president and many years as flower show chairman. Even out of office he contributes greatly to the Chapter activities by regularly securing judges for our flower shows, speakers for our programs, and rare plant material for our auctions and exchanges. Norman and his wife Jean are very generous with their time and also with their plants. They have served regularly as flower show judges for other chapters, whose members happily repay the favor by judging Potomac Valley Chapter shows. He and Jean have helped assure the success of our annual flower shows by exhibiting many fine rhododendrons and azaleas from their extensive collection of hybrids and species, as well as plants from their own hybridizing program. They have opened their beautiful garden to numerous guests and garden tours, and have freely shared this plant material with others. Norman provided a valuable service to the Chapter and District by organizing and chairing the District 9 meeting in 1989. Both he and Jean assisted greatly with the success of the District 9 meeting in 1995. Oct. 28, 1995.
Jean Beaudry
The Potomac Valley Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society is pleased to award the Bronze Medal to Jean Beaudry for her many years of service. Jean has continuously promoted the interests of the Chapter and has served as secretary for many years. She has recruited new members through activities such as representing the American Rhododendron Society at area garden meets, by organizing and hosting executive board meetings, and by hosting invited speakers and out of town judges for our flower shows. Jean and her husband Norman are very generous with their time and also with their plants. They have served regularly as flower show judges for other chapters, whose members happily repay the favor by judging Potomac Valley Chapter shows. She and Norman also help assure the success of our annual flower shows by exhibiting many fine rhododendrons and azaleas from their extensive collection of named hybrids, species, and plants from their own hybridizing program. They have opened their beautiful garden to numerous guests and garden tours, and have freely shared this plant material with others. Jean faithfully serves the Chapter, the District and the Society as District 9 Director of the American Rhododendron Society. Oct. 28, 1995.
Bruno Kaelin
The Potomac Valley Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society is pleased to award the Bronze Medal to Bruno Kaelin for his many years of service. Bruno has served in nearly all the offices of the Chapter, including two years as president and many years as treasurer. Despite his active participation in additional plant societies, he is the Chapter member most likely to say "yes" when asked to do something extra for the club. Bruno has contributed greatly to the success of the chapter by donating plants for door prizes at Chapter meetings and cuttings for auctions and exchanges. He is a great plantsman and regularly wins many of the ribbons in the Chapter flower show. He is a successful hybridizer and has served as chairman of our Chapter seed exchange. Upon receiving this medal, Bruno will join the very select fellowship of double Bronze Medal winners, for he won the award from the New York Chapter before moving to Virginia twenty years ago. Oct. 28, 1995.
