Dr. Ann Hertzler is Virginia Tech Professor Emerita of Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise. She was the driving force behind the establishment of the Peacock-Harper Culinary History Collection in 1999. She helped to evolve it into the Culinary History Collection. In 2005 she endowed the "Ann Hertzler Children's Cookbooks and Nutrition Literature Archive" at Newman Library, the first collection of its kind.

Nutrition Education Resources
After earning a Ph.D. in Nutrition from Cornell University, Dr. Hertzler worked for 10 years at the University of Missouri, Columbia. In 1980 she joined the Virginia Tech faculty where she taught nutrition education for 20 years.
Nutrition Central was designed by Dr. Hertzler so that parents and educators could easily locate food and nutrition education resources for preschoolers. Her presentations demonstrate teaching kitchen skills to preschoolers who learn by doing.

Peacock-Harper Culinary History Collection
600 books belonging to Dora Greenlaw Peacock (1903-1983) and Laura Jane Harper (VPI Dean of Home Economics, 1960-1980) established the foundation of this collection. Nearly 800 titles are available to the public in the Rare Book Room and the open stacks of Newman Library.
Ann Hertzler Children's Cookbook and Nutrition Literature Collection
Over 400 publications donated by Dr. Hertzler focus on nutrition education and children learning about food preparating and cooking. They form the foundation of the Children's Cookbook and Nutrition Literature Collection and are publicly available in Addison (the library's online catalog).
