Tracy Thorne, an aviator based at Oceana Naval Air Station in Virginia Beach who publicly declared his homosexuality in 1992. He has since left the Navy. The picture's caption referred to Lt. j.g. Richard ``Dirk'' Selland, a deputy director of the Fleet Industrial Supply Center in Norfolk, who is still in the Navy and fighting efforts to separate him from the service.
